Lovely Lanterns

Image
My Mother-in law had bought some glass vases from the charity shop and wanted to transform them into lanterns to sell at a WI fundraising event.   She then realised that she had no equipment to decorate them with so asked me if I would mind doing it instead.   Of course I didn’t! Two of the lanterns were straight-sided and I’d seen some YouTube demos showing how you could glue the top layer of patterned napkins onto glass.   I wanted to make my own panels so started by cutting white tissue paper to fit and sprayed it with Distress Spray Stains. Once dry, I stamped a variety of silhouette stamps from Lavinia across each piece. Next, using Ranger Multi Medium Matte, I attached each piece of tissue to the vase.   This was rather more difficult than it looked with napkins, maybe because the tissue paper is so delicate. I ended up with a couple of holes and wrinkled areas but there was little more I could do whilst they were wet so they were set aside to dry. ...

Needlework Notions

More sewing related cards this week but this time, they’re all die-cut.   The new release from Waffle Flower featured this die set to die-cut lots of sewing notions.   I cut these out from lots of different coloured card stock and some silver foil card for the metallic parts. For the tape measure, I added a shading using a coloured marker to add a little dimension. The hole in the top of the cotton reel looked a bit strange so I cut small pieces of dark brown paper and glued them on the back.   I used some white ink to add highlights. For the backgrounds, I used pierced cover plate dies as the piercing does resemble sewing machine holes, if you used the machine without thread. To finish off the cards, I used one of my printed sentiments and added Glossy Accents to the scissor handles and pin heads. Here’s the complete collection.   For the last card, I cut all the shapes from white card and coloured them by ink blending.

Album Inspiration

We’ve got a fun fortnight of Design Team posts over at Visible Image with the theme of using our fave music album cover as inspiration.   I’ve picked Slippery When Wet by Bon Jovi, which I had on repeat throughout my teenage years and I still love it now.   The original album cover featured a busty woman in a wet T-shirt but apparently the record execs thought that shops would refuse to stock the album due to the cover being sexist and wanted a different design.   At the last minute, Jon Bon Jovi got a black bin liner, sprayed it with water and wrote the title in the water with his finger and the iconic cover was made. For my non-card make, I began with the letters across the top and stamped ‘CELEBRATE’ from Birthday Wishes   in Versafine Clair Strawberry ink, heat-set with clear embossing powder and then trimmed each letter leaving a thin white border all around.  On a 5¼” square of white card, I blended Worn Lipstick, Stormy S...
