Scaredy Cats

For my last post this month, I wanted to have another go at the spooky moon I made for my DT post using this tutorial .   I really liked the effect and wanted to try it out using different colours. For the first layer, I placed a plastic circle mask over the panel and sprayed using Distress Spray Stains in Black Soot, Crushed Olive, Dusty Concord, Mustard Seed and Barn Door together with Black Soot Distress Oxide spray, spraying with water to get the colours to mix.   The panels were then dried with my heat tool. Using my sprayer, I spritzed water around the edge of the moons to reactivate the inks and tipped and tilted the panel to get the inks to streak across the moon then left them to dry.   After they were dry, each panel was lightly sprayed with a matching Distress Spritz Spray. I decorated the panels using Stamper’s Anonymous Snarky Cats and the Halloween version and the tree branch is from Mr Frostie .   These were stamped and clear heat-embossed to ...

Draw A Blank

Do you ever feel intimidated by the blank sheet in front of you?  Apparently, it’s quite a common to sit down with a white sheet of card in front of you and for your mind to go blank. I purchased a gel press plate to make backgrounds in the hope that they would provide some inspiration that would spark an idea. These cards were for ladies in the Lavinia Birthdays group so they feature Lavinia Stamps.  I began with these two panels to create two cards.  I wanted them each to have a moon and I hadn’t left space in the printing so had to create one. For the purple panel, I brushed on white pigment ink through a circular stencil, adding a little silver and some white gel pen. Using a landscape stencil, I added some distant hills and near ground and also blended some ink to darken the sky and make the moon more prominent. After seeing a lovely card with a bokeh sky, I thought I’d give it a go using a few different colours.  I don’t think it wor...

Patient Puss

Like me, my sister is a big fan of cats so, when it came to making a card for her birthday, it called for another outing for Mooch (Lavinia stamps). I’d recently bought a gel press plate for making backgrounds using mixed media so this was a first outing for that – and for me using it! To begin, I brayered some Distress Oxide inks in Weathered Wood and Duck Egg onto the gel plate, spritzed with a little water, then pressed my card onto the plate.  This would colour the moon.  Next, I applied a selection of pink and purple Oxides onto the gel plate, added an acetate circle to mask the area for the moon, spritzed with water again and then pressed the card onto the plate. I wanted the cat to be highlighted by the moon so decided to have him sitting on a wall, made using a brickwork stencil, and then stamped Mooch on top.   The final stage was framing the scene which I did with Dandelion and Thistle silhouette stamps, also from Lavinia.  I the...
