Crafty As L

Whilst I usually do my Christmas card challenge for the last post of the month, it’s Mothering Sunday in the UK today so I’m sharing the cards I made for my Mum and M-i-L.   It’s been bittersweet making the card for my dementia-ridden Mum.   She no longer knows my sister or me and claims that she doesn’t have any children.   It’s truly heartbreaking. After digging through my Visible Image stash, I started by using the Heart Ink and Entwined Butterfly stencils together and stencilled a heart using Squeezed Lemonade, Saltwater Taffy and Twisted Citron Distress Oxides. After drying the panel well, I gold heat-embossed the daffodils and sentiment from Golden Daffodils. I then gold heat-embossed the small butterfly from Antisocial Butterfly onto the heart and also onto some scrap card. It’s Mothering Sunday in the UK today and I’m sharing the cards that I made for my Mum and Mum-in-law.    The inspiration for purchasing the Altenew Craft-A-Flower Snowdrops Layering dies was from these two cards by  Jenny and Erum . Whilst I could have cut the leaves from coloured card stock or coloured the die-cuts, I decided to make a water-coloured panel of green for the leaves whilst I was creating the background for one of the cards.   For the background panel, I started with Altenew Water-Colour paints and then added Brushos for more vibrancy, adding some salt for texture. Next, the marathon die-cutting! I think this took me about half an hour to do.   I then assembled the flower heads so I had everything ready to go. Happy Mother’s Day!  My cards this week are the ones I made for my Mum and Mum-in-law using the Colorado Craft Company For Mom stamp set, another one by Anita Jeram. Firstly, I stamped the main image and coloured it with my Faber Castell Polychromos pencils.  I tried to add some variety of shade but didn’t bother to blend the colours. My plan was to blend the pencil colour using Zest-it Pencil Blend and some paper stumps.  It’s my first time using this and it worked well.  It’s an oily texture and I poured some onto a sponge I’d put in a small jar so I could dab the stumps onto the sponge.  This was a tip I got from a Sandy Allnock video.  For the background, I repeat stamped one of the smaller stamps from the set with Versamark and heat set with clear embossing powder.  I also added this stamp to the envelope and liner of the card.
