Crafty As L

The cards this week use TEXT{ures} Magnolia Half Tone stamp set, dies and washi paper by Lou Collins.   For my first card, I die-cut the outline from dark purple card and also from silver mirror card. After gluing the outline onto a white panel, I inlaid the silver pieces into the design and trimmed off the overhang.  To finish the card, the panel was simply mounted onto a purple card base and topped with a sentiment. Next, I tried out the washi papers, which come in a range of colours. I applied the transfer to a square panel and trimmed off the overhang before adding the silver frame from the first card on top.   You can see the edges of the washi paper as it is a slightly different shade to my card but it looks OK. These washi paper transfers make for really quick but impactful cards.   The image is large so it’s easy to cut in half and create two cards to stretch your supplies.    

This week’s card is a fun-fold that is suitable for festive makes or any occasion year-round.   It’s a Centre Stepper card and you can find my template for the base and layers here .   I like the 4⅛” wide as I can get 2 cards from an A4 sheet but you can make it as wide as you like, subject to the size of card available to you. This was another card that featured the Pinkfresh Studio Magnolias that I made for my post back in November.   I began by cutting my card base and top layer from white and the mats from green. For the toppers, I wanted white but not plain so I used the Quilted Cover Plate die from Honey Bee Stamps to create a lovely stitched trellis background. The magnolias and sentiment were added using thin foam tape and I added rhinestones at the intersections of the trellis.   As you know, I’m a big fan of layering stencils.   This week’s card features Pinkfresh Studios Magnolias suite, which has a stamp set, layering stencils and die set which will result in a collection of elements to layer and create a dimensional card.  To begin, I stamped in Versamark and heat embossed using gold and silver powder.   Next, I shaded the leaves using blending brushes and just one green ink pad.   The detailed layer was done using the same ink pad and creates some depth. The flowers were next and I used a variety of colours, largely sticking to the natural colours of magnolias.   For the white ones, I just added a little grey for the shaping and shadows. The matching die is one unit and cuts out all the elements in one go.   Very handy!    This gave me 12 sets of magnolias for using on my next few projects.
