My card this week is one I made for a cat-loving friend.   The stamp set was a limited edition to celebrate Visible Image’s 20 th birthday called Purr-fect Birthday and I love the silhouettes and fun sentiments.   It’s a great set to use for quick cards and brilliant for those tricky male cards too. For background, I blended blue and red inks through the Squared stencil. Whilst that was drying, I stamped the cat in the box onto white and kraft card.   I added a little shading to the brown box and then fussy cut them both, chopping the cat off the brown box.   The brown box was then glued to the white one, with the cat peeking out of the top. Returning to the background, I replaced the stencil and used a fine black pen to draw around the squares.   The various cats were then stamped into the big squares. My DT blog post today features a card I made for our godson’s 3 rd birthday.   I like to make interactive cards for him and made this one a shaker card with a surprise pop-up inside. For the background, I made an inky panel using Distress Spray Stains in Mustard Seed, Broken China and Twisted Citron.   Once dry, I white heat-embossed the Grunge Birthday Words   stamp all over and trimmed to 5¼” square. For the shaker elements, I used the no.3 from Birthday Balloons stamps and dies.   For speedy stamping, I die-cut lots of threes from white card.   I die-cut a three from the centre of a larger piece of scrap card and put this in my MISTI.   I positioned the stamp in the aperture and picked it up with the lid and then added each die-cut and stamped the 3.   My friend’s daughter has just finished her degree course with First-class honours together with having her dissertation published in a journal.   What an achievement!   For her congratulations card, I used the diamond pop-up card for the base, dimensions of which can be found here . The pop-up section would be the black mortar board cap, so I chose yellow for the card base and black and white for the layers.   I die cut a book and some glasses to decorate the left triangular mat.   The right was decorated with a die cut number 1 and a degree scroll, finished with a tiny piece of ribbon.   The black cap seemed a little plain so I used the stars from Lawn Fawn’s Tiny Backdrops stamps with Versamark ink and heat set with clear embossing powder to add a little interest and texture.   To make the tassel, I wrapped some black embroidery thread around a piece of card and tied the threads together at one edge, then removed the treads from the card. ...
