Winter Birthday

Image
Our Design Team theme this week is Winter Birthdays and for my non-card project, I’ve made a birthday tag.   Although it’s a birthday project, I’m stretching my stash by using a Christmas stamp set and making a male-themed tag to boot. To begin, I die-cut a large tag from an inky panel that I’d made using Distress Stain, Mica Stain and Distress Spritz sprays in various shades of blue.   It’s hard to tell from the photo but this panel has lots of lovely shimmer. After liberally dabbing the tag with an anti-static powder tool and using Christmas Eve stamp set, I stamped the row of trees, moon and stars with Versamark ink, added white embossing powder and heat set.   I then repeated the process for the large tree in the foreground and the sentiment, which is from Birthday Wishes . To make the ground different to the sky, I used a scrap of paper for a hill mask and blended white pigment ink below each mask, and below the tree line.   I also added some white in...

Too Many Candles

Image
Late September and early October is a busy few weeks for birthdays for me (my own included!) and this year there were two big birthdays thrown into the mix; my sister's 50th (last week's post) and my friend’s 60 th .   This card idea had popped up on my Facebook feed as an Etsy advert so I dug out my Cricut and attempted to make my own version. To begin, I got a free SVG download of a birthday candle and imported it into Cricut’s Design Space, where I manipulated it and created background layers to mount the candles on.   I then dug out some coordinating patterned papers and set the Cricut busy cutting. I had designed 6 strips of 10 candles and had decided to stick the candles onto both sides so there were a lot of cut outs!  The next step of gluing all the bits in place turned out to be quite arduous and I was starting to regret my decision to make this. However, once I stuck the sections together, I was glad that I’d persevered as I could see that it wa...

Rusty Robot

Image
It was my Father-in-law’s birthday earlier this month so Mr L had requested a computer-themed card.   I don’t have much in that line but I remembered that the Visible Image Robot Data stamp set featured some computer elements plus there’s also the Short Circuit stencil. Rather than a brand-new shiny robot, I wanted to try to create a rusty robot so I started spraying Distress Stains and Spritzes in shades of red, orange, gold and brown onto a piece of card.   The Spritzes gave some lovely shimmer - although I appreciate the irony as rust is dull!   I stamped the large robot in black ink, clear heat-embossed it and then fussy cut along the lines.   Using a small blending brush and brown ink, I went around the edges of the robot and also added some black fineliner squiggles and shading to add some dimension.   I also stamped the top of the head and copper heat-embossed that before cutting out with the matching die.   The rusty robot was then glued in plac...
