Crafty As L

The Visible Image ATC swap theme this month was ‘January Blues’ which meant that the main colour to use was blue – rather than being a sad theme!   After spraying a few sheets of card with various blue Distress Stains, I selected one for my project. I didn’t really have an idea of what I was going to make so, as this piece of card reminded me of a dull January sky, I started with that.   To go with it, I dug out one of my favourite stamps, Into The Woods.   I stamped the background trees in Versafine Clair Paradise and then the foreground trees in Twilight. Next, I used the Curves stencil and blended Tumbles Glass Distress Ink through to create some texture (contrails?!) in the sky. It was whilst finding a sentiment that the idea for a New Year theme came to mind so I got the Birthday Balloons stamp set and stamped the year using second generation stamping with Versafine Clair Warm Breeze. I have quite a few anniversary cards to make during the first 3 months of the year.  These 2 were made for my parents and some close friends – neither of which know each other so it didn’t matter that they were similar.  I used a variety of stamps by Lavinia Stamps and Inkylicious. To start, I die cut 2 hearts, one scalloped and one plain edged, and some masks from sticky notes.  I added a moon mask and then blended some Distress Oxide inks to the sky, then removed the moon mask and added some grey to the moon. After stamping some distant trees, I moved the masks down and blended a little ink to create the landscape and added some more stamping.  The bunnies were added and then the scene built up around them using various trees, shrubs and a fence. For the background, I used the Stampin’ Up! Woodland embossing folder and a square of navy card and a few Posca splats. The sentiment was stamped and mounted onto a navy rectangle.   Do you ever feel intimidated by the blank sheet in front of you?  Apparently, it’s quite a common to sit down with a white sheet of card in front of you and for your mind to go blank. I purchased a gel press plate to make backgrounds in the hope that they would provide some inspiration that would spark an idea. These cards were for ladies in the Lavinia Birthdays group so they feature Lavinia Stamps.  I began with these two panels to create two cards.  I wanted them each to have a moon and I hadn’t left space in the printing so had to create one. For the purple panel, I brushed on white pigment ink through a circular stencil, adding a little silver and some white gel pen. Using a landscape stencil, I added some distant hills and near ground and also blended some ink to darken the sky and make the moon more prominent.
