Crafty As L

For my Visible Image Design Team post this week, I’m sharing the card I made for my very dear friend who was awarded a British Empire Medal in the New Year Honours list this year.   As well as being a talented crafter, she also founded Project 71, a support group for WW2 veterans and the award is in recognition of this.   Lorie has worked tirelessly raising funds, organising events and marshalling her band of volunteers and the award is very well deserved.   I’m very proud of her. She was presented with her medal a few weeks ago and had a little shin-dig to celebrate with the volunteers and show off the medal. Lorie likes autumn colours and also knitting so I decided to use these as my inspiration.   I stamped the Birthday Balloons in orange and yellow tones of Distress Inks, spraying the ink on the stamp with a little water before stamping. It’s been a tough few weeks for us hence why I’ve been absent for the past couple of weeks.   Firstly, we had to return our puppy to the breeder as she just couldn’t settle in a house full of cats.   This was a heartbreaking decision but we had to do what was right for the puppy.   Next, my Mum had to go into a nursing home as my Dad was exhausted, being her full-time carer.   This has been enormously emotional and has really taken its toll on Dad so we’ve been looking after him.   I’ve had no time to do any card making so instead, I’m sharing a cake I made for one of the Project 71 veteran’s 100 th birthday. My card this week is a very special one, made for one of Mr L’s childhood friends.   What makes it particularly special is that Gav was found to have a brain tumour around 10 years ago and doctors predicted that it was unlikely that he would reach the ripe old age of 40.   Fortunately, many surgeries and drugs mean that he is still here with us and we had a great celebration.     Gav and his wife are into wine and cats so that was my theme. To make the base for my pop-up card, I cut two pieces of card 8½” x 7½” and on both, scored with the long side at the top, at 3¾” and 7½”.   On one, I rotated the card through 90 ˚and scored along the centre at 3¾”.   I trimmed down the score lines to the centre score line, cutting the 1” tab at an angle.   On the other piece, I rotated through 90˚ but only scored across one panel and the tab.   Again, I trimmed down the score lines to the centre score line, cutting the 1” tab at an angle.   I glued ...
