Festive Foils

How are your Christmas makes coming along?  There was rare outing for my Spellbinders Hot Foil machine last week to make the backgrounds for my Christmas makes this month.  I had a play with the Twilight Sparkle Strip hot foil plate and gold and silver holographic foil.   The third panel uses the negative of the foil sheet, hot foiled again using a solid plate on purple card. Next, I got busy with my Big Shot and the fairy light dies from Spellbinders Holiday Decorations. For the lights, I went for a traditional colour scheme and used a light and dark shade each of red and green card, switching around the highlights.   Metallic gold foil card was used for the cable and light caps. The sentiments for both cards are from Cozy Christmas by Waffle Flower.   For this card, I black heat embossed onto a strip of acetate which was wrapped around the panel and secured on the back.   The panel was then mounted on a dark red card base.   For extra sparkle, ...

OMG! You're how old?

My year of big birthdays is now at an end.  There’ve been five 50 ths (including my own), two 60 ths and one each of 70 th and 18 th .  I bought the Sunburst stencil from Sweet Poppy Stencils as I thought it might be useful for making masculine cards.  Indeed, it was when I made this one. It was whilst I was making this card that I thought it’d be fu n to try it with the deco gel and some foil.  The trickiest part with the gel was the circle in the centre – it’s quite hard to get an even layer of gel over that section.  Anyway, after it dried, I applied some rainbow foil and ran it through the laminator. I never grow tired of the reveal! Next, I got busy with the Cricut and made my letters and backgounds.  I use Inkscape for designing my lettering and the shadow outline is created by making an offset to the text and then import into Cricut Design Space.  There are really good tutorials for how to do both of these things on YouT...
