Festive Foils

How are your Christmas makes coming along?  There was rare outing for my Spellbinders Hot Foil machine last week to make the backgrounds for my Christmas makes this month.  I had a play with the Twilight Sparkle Strip hot foil plate and gold and silver holographic foil.   The third panel uses the negative of the foil sheet, hot foiled again using a solid plate on purple card. Next, I got busy with my Big Shot and the fairy light dies from Spellbinders Holiday Decorations. For the lights, I went for a traditional colour scheme and used a light and dark shade each of red and green card, switching around the highlights.   Metallic gold foil card was used for the cable and light caps. The sentiments for both cards are from Cozy Christmas by Waffle Flower.   For this card, I black heat embossed onto a strip of acetate which was wrapped around the panel and secured on the back.   The panel was then mounted on a dark red card base.   For extra sparkle, I used clear Wink of Stella on the

Cats + Patriotic = Catriotic!

Welcome to my second Visible Image blog post, this time featuring patriotic cats.   The idea for this card came to me whilst I was driving home and saw some red, white & blue bunting with a cat sat underneath.   Instead of bunting, I subbed the Grungy Union Jack stencil instead, which I love. I have a quickie YouTube video of the making of this card here . To begin, I stamped multiples of the cats from That Lovin' Feline onto masking paper and fussy cut them. On a 5¼” square piece of card, I stamped the cats along the bottom, masking the foreground cats then stamping others in the background until about a third of the panel was covered. I replaced the masks on the cats and then positioned the Grungy Union Jack stencil and taped it in place.   Using sticky notes to cover adjacent areas so as not to mix the colours, I used small blending brushes to add traditional colours to the flag.   Once complete, the cat masks were removed. The cats were coloured using alcohol m

Count The Good Times

My card this week was a commission from a lovely lady who wanted a special card for her Mum’s 90 th birthday.   The brief was food, fireworks and celebrations!   For the food element, I used Visible Image’s Blow Out The Candles stamp set. At first, I stamped just one cake but I thought it looked a bit meagre for a celebration cake so I got out my stamping platform and did some partial stamping and masking to create a 3-tier cake, drawing in the centres and bottom edges with a fine liner. I coloured the cake with Copic markers before fussy cutting along the lines and then I went around the edge with a black Sharpie.   To make the cake even more celebratory, I added Nuvo glitter drops all over the icing for some sparkle. Next, for the background.   The fireworks were created using the Paper Rose Fireworks stencil and a combination of Distress Oxides in Picked Raspberry, Salty Ocean and Mustard Seed. Since this was a very special card, I thought a slider card would add some
