Frozen

Image
Our Visible Image Design Team theme this week is “Winter Colours” and for my “Clean & Simple” brief, I’ve chosen a colour scheme inspired by the Frozen films.   I decided to make Christmas cards to push me out of my comfort zone as I wouldn’t normally use these colours for festive makes.   It’s good to try out new ideas though and I really like the finished cards. The background is half a sheet of white card sprayed with Chipped Sapphire, Broken China and Picked Raspberry Distress Stains then topped with Distress Spritzes in Picked Raspberry and Wilted Violet for some lovely shimmer.   I white heat-embossed the snowflakes from Sketched Snowflakes all over the panel before chopping off a 2¼”x 5¼” rectangle.     On a 5½” square of white card and using Versafine Clair Glamorous, I stamped and clear heat embossed the sentiment and small snowflakes.    To finish the card was matted and layered onto 6” card blank and embellished with gems.  ...

Mr Frostie

Image
Mr Frostie is one of the sets in the latest release from Stampers Annonymous by Tim Holtz.   I love both of the snowmen and with their sketchy style, they’re really easy to colour too. To begin, I cut two panels and stamped each of the snowmen onto them using Versafine Clair Nocturne ink. To colour them, I dug out my Zig brush water colour pens and blended the ink out with a paintbrush and some clean water.   This was some super-quick colouring! For the background, I blended Weathered Wood Distress Oxide onto one and Iced Spruce Distress Ink onto the other, spritzing each lightly.   In future, I think I’d do this step first so as not to risk the watercolour running.   Using 2 nd generation stamping and Versafine Clair Morning Mist, I stamped the snowflakes around the background too. For the first card, I simply stamped the sentiment in black and added some clear Stickles onto the scarf, hat and nose and some clear Nuvo drops onto the eyes and butt...

Forever In Your Heart

Image
Sadly, I recently needed a sympathy card for my friend who lost his Mum.   It is difficult making cards for such occasions but I find inspiration knowing that the card I send might just help ease their pain a little.   To make this card, it was a first outing for Visible Image’s Forever In Your Heart stamps and matching die. To begin, I made a couple of inky panels using the ink smooshing technique.   I pressed Shaded Lilac, Victorian Velvet, Seedless Preserves and Dusty Concord Distress Inks onto my craft mat, spritzed on some water and dabbed my card into the puddles. Once I’d finished the brighter one that I was going to use for the feathers, I spritzed a little more water and pressed the second piece of card into the inks.   As there was less ink and more water, the colours are more muted. I stamped the feather using Versamark ink, added bronze embossing powder and heat set it before cutting out the feather with the matching die.   Even though the ba...
