Embossed Snowflake Tree

My snowflake love affair continues this week with a Christmas tree made up of snowflakes.  How cool is that?!  I decided on heat embossing as this stamp lends itself very well to that technique and tried out gold, silver and white embossing powders on a Christmassy red background. I can’t even decide on a favourite – I love them all!

For this project I used:

11½” x 4⅛” Real Red card base, scored at 5¾”

5⅝” x 4” Whisper White mat layer

5½” x 3⅞” Real Red top layer

5½” x 3⅞” Whisper White card for the liner

First, stamp the liner and envelope with the large snowflakes using Real Red ink and leave to dry.

Use the embossing buddy liberally all over the card top and then stamp the snowflake tree image and greeting using Versamark ink.  Fill in some of the gaps by stamping the large snowflake using Versamark.  Apply your preferred embossing powder and set with the heat gun.  Apply rhinestones to the centre of the large snowflakes.

Adhere the top layer onto the white mat layer and then stick this onto the card base.  Adhere the liner to the inside and you’re all finished.

Super quick and super classy!

Twist 'n' Pop

I’ve been binge watching fancy fold card videos on YouTube lately.  A fancy fold definitely adds a bit of WOW! to a card.  They usually take a little longer to make but are worth the effort.  This card was made using Sam Calcott’s (of Mixed Up Craft fame) tutorial.  Her instructions are really clear and easy to follow. My theme for this week’s card was a 60 th birthday for my friend.  She’s a fun, bubbly and stylish lady so I wanted the same kind of feel for her card.   To begin, I wanted a black and white striped background.  I only had skinny striped paper so I drew some deliberately wonky lines with my black marker pen and coloured them in, several times, to give a rich black colour. Next, using my Cricut, I cut my sentiment from black and gold vinyl and stuck it onto the panel.  I added some gold dots in the corners where I would later add the decorative elements. Festive Floating Window

  I saw this card style on a YouTube video by Scrimpingmommy and thought it’d be fun to try.  As it transpired, I got completely carried away with it and made 4 bases ready for decorating!  I used Stampin’ Up! Perfectly Plaid, Stitched Stars and Brightly Gleaming for my decorative elements.  Although I've made Christmas cards, this style of card can be used for any occasion. My card bases are 5¾” x 8¼”, a little less than half a sheet of cardstock, and scored at 4⅛”.  For this card, the front needs to be cut into three so I cut mine equally at 1⅜”.  For the window section, I cut a piece of acetate 1¾” wide by a smidge under 5¾”.  I discarded the centre portion and applied thin adhesive tape to the top and bottom edges of the acetate. Next, I cut some layers from card and DSP to decorate the top and bottom panels of the card.
