Midweek Make: Pay It Forward
One of the prizes from the Cardmaker of The Year 2022 competition was a year’s subscription to Practical Publishing’s magazines. Each issue comes with some goodies but I’ve barely had the time to make anything with most of them but recently, I’ve been making a special effort to try them out. This week’s MWM uses the Wellness Cardmaking Kit from Papercraft Essentials #223 and the Hunkydory Moonstone die from Die-Cutting Essentials #101.
After returning from a fabulous massage by Anna at The Holistic Cabin, the artwork on my appointment card reminded me of the Wellness card kit images so I thought I’d make some gift-voucher holders for her and pay forward my free magazine membership. I messaged Anna to see what size her vouchers were and set to work. I used 6” square stepper card blanks but cut off the last small panel and die cut a fancy edge to be the pocket for the voucher.
The kit has lots of toppers and papers in it, some of which feature beautiful blue foiling. To neaten the finished toppers, I trimmed off all the little nubs of card once I’d popped them out of the surrounds.
This kind of card making isn’t usually my style so I used a couple of the examples in the magazine as inspiration to get me started.
I added a little ink blending and ink splats on some, popped up some elements on foam tape and finished all the cards with a few rhinestones. Altogether, I had plenty of supplies to create 8 gift-voucher holders.
Since I had a couple of sheets of paper left, I made a presentation box for the cards as it does look much nicer than just shoving them in a bag!
It was so heartwarming to give an unexpected gift and Anna loved them, which is all that mattered to me.
