If You Were Milk

This week’s card is the one I made for my Dad for his birthday.  My sister always sends him rude cards whereas I usually go for a soppy one.  However, Dad’s been having a challenging time over the past couple of years, adjusting to caring for my Mum who’s suffering from dementia, so I decided to make him a card that would (hopefully!) make him laugh.

To begin, I die-cut a 4-window panel using Creative Expressions Sue Wilson Square Collection die from white card.  On a square of yellow card, I marked where the apertures were and used a square die to cut them out before adhering the white panel on top.

Next, I took another white panel and lightly marked the apertures in pencil before stamping the cats and sentiment from Stampers Anonymous Snarky Cats by Tim Holtz.  I sketched in the milk bottles at the bottom.

Some of the ink bled through my sticky notes when I masked the words which caused the marks just above the sentiment.  I didn’t want to start again so attempted to disguise the marks by stencilling some paw prints (Newton’s Nook) but that didn’t work so I added dots all over with a black fine liner.  The cats were coloured with Copic markers and I die-cut ‘DAD’ from black and yellow card using Julie Hickey Sweet Pea Alphabet dies.

To complete the card, I added foam tape behind the aperture panel and adhered the cats behind.  I then glued the letters in place and mounted the whole panel onto a black square card base.

I’m pleased to report that it did make Dad laugh!

Here's another card I made using the same stamp set and Creative Crafts Rick Rack Circle Nestables, based on one I made for a commission for Die-Cutting Essentials Magazine #105.
