Blooming Wonderful
Welcome to my fortnightly DT post and this week I’ve got some bright, summery florals, made using the Birthday in Bloom stamp set. I love all the different flowers that pop up in the garden in summer and as I write this, I’m looking out on wild foxgloves, peonies and roses in my garden. These stamps reminded me of zinnias, of which I have many trays growing on in the greenhouse.
To begin, I stamped the larger vase off centre as I wanted one of the flowers to be disappearing off the page. I then stamped the flowers, bending the stems to fit my design, and added the sentiment.
Next, I used my Altenew brush tip markers to colour the flowers. They’re not blendable like alcohol markers but I started with the darker colour at the base of the petals and coloured over with the lighter one for some simple colour variation.
To give the vase a glassy finish, I added Glossy Accents all over and set aside for a few hours to dry.
To tie in with the grungy edges of the flowers, I flicked some splats using a black alcohol pen.
The next part was a happy accident. The paper had bowed from the moisture in the Glossy Accents so the vase had even more dimension. So it didn’t get squashed in the post, I added a few 3D squares behind the vase.
I didn’t have the appropriate colour of orange card so I simply coloured around the edge of my card blank with the orange marker that I used for the flowers.
The
panel was adhered to a black rectangle and then to the orange edged card blank. I added a few white highlits to the flowers with a white Posca pen.
I love how the vase turned out!
