Christmas Magic
More cards this week from the Tim Holtz/Sizzix vault release, this time using the Christmas Magic set of dies. I do love a silhouette so I couldn’t wait to get playing with these.
To begin, I started by die-cutting the buildings. I cut them from black card and backed one with white card, slightly off-set, and another with white card which I’d left the windows in and coloured with a yellow marker.
Next, I die-cut the sleighs. Again, I cut these from black and also from silver glitter card which I offset behind the black die-cuts. I then wondered what it would look like if I coloured it so cut it out of white card and coloured it with my markers. I die-cut another sleigh from red card, added Wink of Stella and then decorated with a gold metallic marker. After chopping off the runners, Santa and sack, the sleigh body was glued onto the coloured die-cut. I backed this one with black card.
Last on the die-cutting schedule were the other bits in the kit; the moon, vehicles and lampposts. The moons were cut from white card and coloured by ink blending a little grey ink.
After making a background using Distress Stains and Spritzes, I chopped it into rectangles and began assembling my cards. For the first one, I simply glued a strip of white glitter card snow with the buildings above. The lamps and sleigh were attached using thin foam tape. (The sentiment is from Mr. Frostie.)
For the second card, I used the white backed buildings and glued them lower down the card. This card looked a little dull with a silhouette sleigh so I used the coloured sleigh instead, finishing with some snowy splatters.
I had a purple inky sheet lying around on my desk so tried out a couple with this background. I backed these buildings with silver glitter card and both layers of the moon are mottled vellum.
For my last card, I wanted to make a Z-fold scene so started by spraying the inside of a white card blank, leaving the bottom mainly white.
The front half was folded back on itself to create the Z-fold and then I used the negative section from one of the building die-cuts as a stencil to create some background buildings.
I die-cut the building from grey and black card and attached them to the front and inside the card. I left the middle section without a die-cut as I didn’t want to make it difficult to fold the card.
Finally, I decorated with the other die-cuts, glueing the lorry and the sleigh only to the left front. The lampposts were handy for covering the joints of the buildings! The last job was some white snowy splatter using Dr Ph Martin’s bleedproof white.
This is the full scene when the card is opened out.
