Birthday Glow

It’s another exciting new release day over at Visible Image, this time to celebrate Hobbymaker’s birthday.  This new collection comprises four stencils and four stamp sets to cover you for cards for all kinds of life events.  You can shop the collection here.

For my card today, I’m using the Birthday Glow stamp set and I started by stamping and gold heat-embossing the large sentiment.

After trimming the sentiment, I cut a 5¼” square of black card and marked in pencil where the sentiment would go.  This gave me the frame to work around whilst stamping and gold heat-embossing the row of candles.

The row was perfect for the height but a bit short for the width of the sentiment so I had to repeat stamp, masking the area I didn’t want stamped with a sticky note.  I filled in the little gaps at the corner with my Versamark pen.

To get the candle glow, I blended Delicata Golden Glitz ink over each flame using a small blending brush.

Metallic watercolour paints look great on black card and I used these to colour the candles and the icing.

This blue foil card matched one of the metallic paints so I used it to back the panel, gutting it first so I had a piece of the same card to back the sentiment with.

I like to put an insert into black cards so it’s easier to write your message so I used some more stamps from the set to decorate that.

The sentiment was attached to the panel using foam tape for dimension.

Twist 'n' Pop

I’ve been binge watching fancy fold card videos on YouTube lately.  A fancy fold definitely adds a bit of WOW! to a card.  They usually take a little longer to make but are worth the effort.  This card was made using Sam Calcott’s (of Mixed Up Craft fame) tutorial.  Her instructions are really clear and easy to follow.   My theme for this week’s card was a 60 th birthday for my friend.  She’s a fun, bubbly and stylish lady so I wanted the same kind of feel for her card.   To begin, I wanted a black and white striped background.  I only had skinny striped paper so I drew some deliberately wonky lines with my black marker pen and coloured them in, several times, to give a rich black colour. Festive Floating Window

  I saw this card style on a YouTube video by Scrimpingmommy and thought it’d be fun to try.  As it transpired, I got completely carried away with it and made 4 bases ready for decorating!  I used Stampin’ Up! Perfectly Plaid, Stitched Stars and Brightly Gleaming for my decorative elements.  Although I've made Christmas cards, this style of card can be used for any occasion. My card bases are 5¾” x 8¼”, a little less than half a sheet of cardstock, and scored at 4⅛”.  For this card, the front needs to be cut into three so I cut mine equally at 1⅜”.  For the window section, I cut a piece of acetate 1¾” wide by a smidge under 5¾”.  I discarded the centre portion and applied thin adhesive tape to the top and bottom edges of the acetate.
